We started at 18:15 sharp with a briefing from Peter. Which having heard what was in store I made my way to the canoe rescues first thinking I'll get the hardest one out of the way, with the loudest instructor (Adrian).
Adrian expertly demonstrated the scoop rescue and amazingly everyone in our group managed to role the canoe empty it, help someone get in it and haul themselves back in. Piece of cake!
Next on to Peters Station with scoop rescues in the sea Kayaks, again good clear demo. I admit I was a little nervous of this one as have, touch wood, never rolled a kayak so have never had to exit one upside down! But I rolled escaped and was rescued by one of our newest members Connie.
Everything was going so well. Onto the final stop, self rescues. Well I managed to save the most difficult and vicious till last. The aim of the game here was to climb back into the kayak with no assistance. Peter showed us how to climb up the back of the kayak flick you legs round and hey presto!
You're sitting back in the kayak. That is not what happened when attempted by me. I got up on the back of the kayak, crawled up to the seat and hey presto! I'd rolled the kayak and was back in the water. I attempted to drown my self a further 2 times, (each time glimpsing Wendy recording my demise from the pool side,) before finally managing to get my balance enough to actually get in the kayak.
So now my legs and ego were very much brused but we had time for a bit more fun! My self and John practiced some paddle float rescues, which are a lot easier on the legs! Then Tim and Peter showed us some T rescues and how to turn the boat if you were close to the side.
I definitely learnt some useful new skills and can't wait till the next one. Thanks, everyone for a great evening!
