Sea Kayak Leader (Non Tidal)

Become a Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal)!

  • Do you want to lead a group of kayakers in moderate non-tidal water?
  • Are you a sea kayaker or do you have experience paddling on the sea or open water?

If so, the Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal) Award could be for you!

Why become a Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal)?

First of all, the award is open to anyone with experience of paddling in moderate non tidal water with winds not exceeding Beaufort force 4. The award will enable you to lead fun, safe and enjoyable trips for groups of kayakers. 

Secondly, you will be supported to develop your personal and leadership skills during two days of training, with like-minded sea/ touring kayakers. 

Furthermore, this award is used by clubs, outdoor centres and organisations to support their sea kayak journeys on moderate non – tidal waters. This includes short, single or multi-day journeys. 


WHAT CAN A LEADER DO?

Your award will support you to lead safe and enjoyable short, single or multi-day journeys. You will lead sea kayakers with a range of experience on trips based on their needs and aspirations in a moderate non – tidal water environment with winds not exceeding Beaufort force 4.

As a Leader, you can choose to work independently or be deployed by a:

  • Club
  • Centre
  • Organisation 


To lead trips and journeys. The purpose of these trips may be wide ranging from:

  • Educational experiences
  • Social adventures
  • Trying something new


You will be able to provide British Canoeing Awards and Training, such as:

Personal Performance Awards – Paddle Start Award, Paddle Discover Award, Sea Kayak Award.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR ASSESSMENT?

There are lots of ways you can prepare for your assessment. It is important that you take an active role in deciding the appropriate training and experience that you need. You could book onto the British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leader (non-tidal) Training course to support you in developing the required skills. Alternatively, you can choose bespoke learning opportunities to support your development stage. Find out more on the content tab.
