In 2016 our current vice chairman, Jerry Thornton managed to secure funding to construct a store within the BSC compound, this store would be dedicated to providing storage for the clubs kayak equipment.
Plans drawn up for the internal space designed to accommodate an impressive racking system for club and members boats.
Regrettably what materialised was a rushed quick nod to a structure, which was poorly constructed and failed to utilise the space efficiently, thus fulling below the standards the CKC embraces today.
Moving forward has become an unspoken motto within the club, with a strong emphasis on progressing and growing, this is reflected in our expanding membership, a true testament to the CKC focus.
After months of talks, a date in the diary and materials purchased. Six of our members gathered tools and knowledge and began removing the old structure, which gave very little resistance, at last the vision could be realised!
The new racking has been centralised to the roller doors, giving a spacious clear access to all boats. The racking system can now accommodate 24 members boats and 12 Club boats. It also offers a modest discreet changing space and an expanse of storage for club equipment and members wet gear.
A few final tweaks to be made over the next few weeks, will include club lockers to enable members to store keys and personal belongings when out on a paddle.
On behalf of the club I would like to express the hugest appreciated to all the guys that gave their time in planning and building this fantastic structure for the CKC, those members are: Martin Crow, Peter Baker, Jerry Thornton, Peter Evans, Nigel Huntington and John Holiday.
Please thank these guys yourself when you see them, without their show of commitment the CKC really would not be the great club it is today.
