Our second club paddle after lock down and a good turnout. As 10 members had put their names down two groups were formed in line with current guidelines. While the first group readied their boats and equipment the second group waited patiently in the car park. Once the first group had launched the second group went 10 minutes later.
The weather was threatening with ballooning cumulus clouds all around but not over the Crouch where it was calm and warm. With the tide having just turned the plan was to paddle against the incoming flow up towards the Roach. This would then give an easy return with the tide. The first group led by Adrian headed across to the far bank while the second group headed by Roger kept to the North side.
The second group tucked in near the north bank and eventually struck out across the river to the North cardinal buoy. Once there it was decided to continue on to Brank buoy at the mouth of the Roach. At this point the two groups were within haling distance where much banter was exchanged…Adrian and applause for Wendy who (her comment) “hadn’t been taken up the Roach before”.
The first group now headed back. The second group waited for ten minutes enjoying the tranquillity before setting off, this time along the south bank. Gently paddling with the in flowing tide Amanda and Sophie, it could be said, were not so much kayaking as kayakyakyaking 😊
By the time the jetty was reached the first group was out allowing the second group to alight.
Isn’t it great when a plan works out just so. Another fab paddle enjoyed by all involved. Martin Crow
